I was the sole operator of the website for its fifteen-year run, handling everything from web development to marketing to ad sales and, of course, writing and taking photographs. My writing style helped the website become a destination for “regular folks” who wanted to learn about digital photography without the tech jargon. My accessible, engaging writing style did not go unnoticed. In addition to having a large group of fans – many of whom followed me to my next role – my website was recognized by tech columnists such as David Pogue and Walt Mossberg of the New York Times and Wall Street Journal, respectively. When I was hired by Digital Photography Review (an Amazon subsidiary) in 2013, I expanded my horizons beyond writing and taking pictures. I led the editorial team in scoping, executing, and publishing written and video content when new products were announced, which was heavily deadline-driven. I was also the editor for over thirty buying guides on the website. I worked with the editorial staff to select the products in each guide, delegated writing to authors, published the content, and measured its success. I was also responsible for putting our buying guides onto Amazon’s product detail pages. In 2021, I undertook an extensive research project to get our buying guides in front of younger audiences, and that summer, I received a certificate in content strategy and brand storytelling at the University of Washington.
